Equator Village - Maldives For the frequent visitors who come to Maldives, the Addu Atoll, where the Equator Village is located, is totally different from everything they have experienced before as it brings you closer to nature as you have never before.
To reach Addu Atoll and Gan ( the island where the airport and resort is located ) you will have a scenic flight from Male to Gan and which is something you will never forget. During the 90 minutes exotic journey you will witness the real Maldives from above, all kinds of beautiful atolls, islands and of course the blue ocean beneath you passing by.
Before landing on Gan you will see that it is a large island, at least compared to the “normal” Maldivan islands. With its length of 5 km and width of 3 km it is a real island. Equator Village is located in the Gan Island , Addu atoll 1 Km from the Gan Airport. And what is more the Addu Atoll is even south of the equator. That’s probably the resort is called Equator Village.
As Island is connected to other villages by causeways tourists can freely move to see the local culture and way of life of the Maldivian people. Equator Village- Gan offers bicycle for those who wish to ride and explore the islands on their own. There is lush tropical vegetation on Gan Island and other neighboring islands. There is a long white sandy beach just 100 meters from the hotel for the guest to enjoy the coral and other marine life is ideal for snorkeling.
Forget everything you have ever heard about the Maldives - Gan is completely different. With its 5 km length and 3 km width it is the largest island in the Addu Atoll which is situated at the very southern end of the Maldives - even south of the Equator. Gan can be reached by Air from Male' (the Capital City of Maldives) in an unforgettable flight over the atolls and islands. Landing on Gan will give you a real surprise. An extraordinary vegetation expects you there; palm trees, bushes, flowers, lush green fields. By the way - most of the bananas served in the Maldives are grown on in this area. Next to Gan are four other islands of approximately the same size - and all are interconnected by bridges. On these islands approximately 25000 Maldivian are making their livelihood out of fishery and agriculture.
Gan was a British Navy and an Air force base from 1912 to 1974. For this reason the island is very well equipped. Many roads and paths are there and can be used for biking and hiking. There is even an 18-hole Golf Course on Gan which is, however, for the time being not in use. It is of course easily possible to visit the various islands by walking or even better by bicycle. The people are very friendly and most of them also speak English. There are many beautiful spots on each of the islands where one can take a swim or discover the beautiful fishes of the sea by snorkeling. As a special surprise there is even a lake on one of the islands where from October to March many birds that are residing here can be seen.

Airport Transfer
Transfer time between the airport and the resort is about 1 and half hours by air. Transfers to the Gan Island is made by a 25 seater domestic flight and then around 10 minutes by a Van.
Depending on your arrival and departure International flight timing, you may have to book a few hours or over-night in a hotel in Male' city or the airport hotel.
There is a USD 30.00 charge (one way) for infants below 2 years.

Those who are spending the day on an excursion can buy a picnic lunch from the hotel in the morning. [Equator Village - Maldives] The large fresh water swimming pool has a direct access to the beach and is equipped with a pool bar as well as a children's section. Around the pool there are plenty of beach chairs available at no cost to guests.
The reception area is equipped with satellite TV and IDD telephone facilities. Also the resort provides following facilities: a fully equipped bar, open air restaurant and a nice billiard room with an antique table. The large fresh water swimming pool has direct access to the beach and is equipped with a pool bar as well as a children's section. Around the pool plenty of beach chairs, beach umbrellas available at no cost to clients. There is tennis court, squash, volleyball, dart billiards, table tennis, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and snorkeling. Furthermore at a distance of only 25m you will find the house reef where many beautiful and a lot of fishes can be seen. There is also a professionally managed diving base attached to the hotel.

Tennis court with floodlights, squash, volleyball, dart, billiard, table tennis, catamaran-sailing, windsurfing and of course, snorkeling are available. For All-Inclusive packages bikes are available for day excursions on Gan or to the neighboring islands. For those who like to jog or walk there are plenty of possibilities on Gan itself. Guests can take part in excursions organized by the hotels as well as sports activities like volleyball matches, table tennis or billiard tournaments. A disco is also available.

Diving
At about 25 meters from the beach you will find a nice house reef. It is the place to go snorkeling. Beautiful corals and a lot of fish can be seen. But for those who want to see more, in the near distance of the hotel you will find a fully equipped diving base. For those of you who have been on Embudu Village, Wolfgang Brakx owns this diving base too.
The diving base offers resorts courses, PADI Open Water courses and of course Advanced Courses too. As the intructors know the area very well, they will escort you on the boat trips to the most beautiful dive spots. And as the region is not too crowded yet, every dive will be a new adventure. Everything you ever dreamt of, can be seen.
Diving in Addoo Atoll

Divers who expect an abundance of reef fish may be disappointed with Addoo Atoll. But those who want to see wrecks, large manta rays, Sharks, turtles and generally big fish all year around, well be delighted with the diving. There are four kandus in the atoll: Gan kandu, Viligili Kandu, Maa Kandu and Kuda Kandu.
- Currents are generally not as strong as in the other atolls so the channels can be dived at the most times. Depths inside the atoll average around 35 meters but it reaches a maximum of 75 meters in the middle.
Gan Inside

Gan Inside is an ideal beginners dive near the eastern end of the airport runway. Towards the outside of Gan Kandu, there is a small wall starting at five meters. Further inside the channel the reef drops to 14 meters. In those sandy bottom you find very often stingrays and eagle rays.
