 -  Excursions

Excursions - Cinnamon Island Alidhoo Maldives     Wide-angle ocean views from the verandah of your villa are a fine thing. But to really appreciate the clear and tranquil waters of the Indian Ocean in which the Maldives are, you need to move out! We offer you a wide range of excursion options to make for most memorable holiday moments.

Note - all excursions are subject to prior reservation and prevailing weather conditions.

- Traditional Maldivian Fishing Cruise
Fishing is the traditional livelihood of the Maldivians. Join us on a fishing trip in a traditional fishing boat, a dhoni. Sway gently as the waves lap the dhoni while you wait for the first tuna or a red snapper to bite.

- Breakfast Fishing on a Dhoni

Imagine yourself on a traditional Maldivian dhoni. In front of you is a breakfast table laden with a spread of hot croissants and fresh danish, your preferred muesli, home made preserves, a beautiful array of tropical fruit, and freshly brewed tea or coffee. Trawling behind are fishing lines baited to lure the biggest tuna and the juiciest barracuda. Not too far in the sea, the dolphins are chasing sardines and jack fish. Over the horizon, the sun is rising to herald the dawn of a new day. Is it a dream? Not at all. Just tell us when you would like to experience it and we’ll set it up for you.

- Champagne Sunset Cruise

As the sun slowly sinks over the horizon and the stars come out, sail into the sunset on a traditional Maldivian dhoni. Let the evening breezes cool and calm you as we serve you champagne and canapés.

- Sashimi Cruise

How about going fishing for your supper? Set off near sunset. Enjoy a cocktail (or mocktail) and trawl the fishing rod for tuna or mullet as you cruise around the atoll of Haa Alif – don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, our crew will guide you. Once we reach the fishing grounds, we’ll drop anchor so that you can go for the catch of the day. As night falls and the fish basket fills up, we’ll light candles and lanterns to set the scene for your moonlit dinner of fresh sashimi, prepared from your very own catch by the chef on board. Back in your villa, a tea or coffee will round off a memorable indulgence. Bon appetite!

- Picnics to the Sandbank

Make yourself at home … on a sandbank, inhabited only by hermit crabs and some birds and visited occasionally by herons and sea turtles. Take a refreshing dip in the Indian Ocean, snorkel in the translucent waters of this isolated haven and observe the teeming multitude of brightly coloured fish in the coral reef. Munch on a packed lunch from your picnic basket, or if you prefer, enjoy a barbeque lunch. Relax as nature puts on a light show just for you. It’s better than any movie!

- Big Game Fishing

Did you always think that fishing is a sedate pastime for the elderly and retired? Here’s a challenge then … match your skills and strength to that of the swordfish or the mighty barracuda. As both species of fish easily grow to 3 to 5 feet long and are amazingly strong, big game fishing in the open waters of the Indian Ocean makes for a seriously tough sport. We’ll tip the odds in your favour by taking you to the most promising spots and equipping you with strong rods and fish lines with steel re-inforced tips. And afterwards, you decide what to do with your catch – have it for lunch, dinner or even breakfast, or enjoy it with a party of people (there will be plenty).

- Night Fishing

Even for those who have been fishing, night fishing is an experience quite different from regular day fishing … for those who have never been fishing, it’s a memorable introduction to a wonderful sport. Our night fishing cruise leaves in time for you to catch the glorious sight of the sun setting, sinking slowly below the horizon. As the stars twinkle in the sky and moonlight casts its magic spell, cast your line. Then sip a glass of champagne and savour the salty tang on your lips as you wait for the fish to bite. Afterwards, of course, our chefs will cook up your catch into a sizzling creation, guaranteed to satiate an appetite sharpened by the cool ocean breezes.

- Private Boat Rental

Explore neighboring islands. Drop anchor in the middle of the lagoon and enjoy the serenity all around. Snorkel in the crystal clear waters. Dive in deep or stay near the surface for a refreshing swim. Rent a boat and unleash the adventurer in you.

- Moonshine Glides

Barks, masterly crafted by local carpenters, will be your craft for this unique experience. Just a few feet long, and laid out comfortably with cushions, they take you on an almost unreal trip into the silent world of the neighboring islands at night, with nothing to break the silence but the sound of the breeze blowing up the sail and the lapping of waves at the bow and rear. As you enjoy the cocktail of your choice with a handful of nibbles, admire the moon and millions of stars in the firmament. All around you, in the water, illuminating crabs sparkle on and off as if reflecting the night sky above.

- Island Hopping

Utheemu – the cradle of Maldivian Independence - is a must visit site for those who wish to learn a bit of history of the Maldives. On this unspoilt Maldivian island you will find the beautifully preserved estates and childhood haunts of Mohammed Thakurufaanu, hero of the Maldivian Independence movement, of whom it was said “In the early morning hours of an October day in 1583 Mohammed Thakurufaanu and his brothers, armed simply with knives and logs, stormed the quarters of the Portuguese in far south Male, and have so fiercely battled them that subsequently the occupiers left the country.” The ancient mosque here dates back to the early 1500s and is a fine example of local craftsmanship, especially carpentry.

- Dolphins with Sundowners

It is said that if you see a dolphin you are very lucky. How about a few hours then, of fun and frolic with the oceans’ favourite mammals? Our cruises leave early morning and in the afternoon, so you can sip on your morning cup of tea or coffee, or enjoy a cocktail or mocktail whilst watching the friendliest of fish.
